Coffee bars and cafes are everywhere. Whether it's a big chain like Starbucks or your favorite independent coffee shop, this beverage and the cafe culture around it are a big part of many people's lives.

But where does it all come from? Who is producing it? Are they paid well for growing and harvesting the beans we enjoy so much? You've probably heard terms like "fair trade" or "equal exchange" tossed around. These are steps made by the coffee industry to ensure that coffee farmers and their families are adequately compensated for the crops they produce. These are all positive changes in the industry, but some companies have taken it upon themselves to go even further make to sure that everything they sell is ethically and sustainably produced through every step of the supply chain.

Sustainable Java's mission is to highlight these companies. We want to provide a one-stop shop for you to reliably and easily discover the kind of companies you can buy from with peace of mind. We're also concerned about the environmental impact of the coffee industry, from farming practices to the paper and plastic cups we use to drink our coffee on the go. There are many companies producing eco-friendly cups, straws, filters, and related products. We want to highlight those as well to be a resource for those who run cafes and are looking for these products. More and more coffee shops are switching to these "green" products and implementing other practices to reduce waste and provide a better product overall.
