Issue #003Coffee For A Better WorldWelcome to the third issue of the Java Jolt Newsletter! Java Jolt is a publication of Sustainable Java which brings you a carefully curated round-up of the best articles and most interesting news stories we find from around the world of coffee. Our focus is sustainability so we'll point you to lots of resources on that. But we're passionate about the coffee industry as a whole, so anything related is fair game. I hope everyone is having a great week and are ready for the weekend! Lots of cool stuff going on in the world of coffee. So brew yourself a good cup, sit down in a comfy chair, and settle in with Java Jolt Newsletter! On to the news...This week we have an article from Sprudge about two things that are meant for one another: coffee and books! I stumbled upon this great article just the other day. It's not a new article, but it's new to me.Over at Sustainable Java Mug-A-Palooza has launched! An online festival of drink-ware including all types and sizes. The best of the best are being carefully selected to appear together in one place for you to browse, shop, and discover! There are relevant news items and videos to check out as well. It's shaping up to be one of 2020's biggest events, so don't miss it! Here is the article from Sprudge that I mentioned above. It's a great read on how coffee shops and bookstores are teaming up to create spaces people want to come to, even in this digital age. Be sure to visit the links within the article to each of the individual businesses they mention. All look really inviting, so if you're ever in the area of any of them, pay them a visit!
The Baratza Encore is in my opinion, the best grinder you can get for home use. There are more expensive grinders that might give you better performance for $200 or so more, but the Encore performs right up there with the best. Baratza recently announced that in April they are refreshing the design and releasing new models. Only this time it will be available in white, instead of only black. I think the new white ones look fantastic, and I am considering getting another one! Take a look on their website: Baratza Encore Black and White Some good things are in the works in Columbia in regards to sustainability. Columbia's Goal of Sustainable Coffee By 2027 Ever had a piccolo latte? Me either, this is the first I've heard of them. But I would like to try one if I can find a place that serves them. What is a Piccolo Latte and How Do I Make It? Great article on growing regions to watch. Some of these I was not aware of, though I have been hearing more and more talk about China's coffee growing regions. The Emerging Specialty Coffee Origins to Pay Attention To Starbucks is now expanding to have stores on...trains? Yes! And it looks great! Here's hoping the U.S.A will one day have a train system as good as Europe, so that we too can enjoy a coffee shop on a train. How To Design A Coffee Bar On A Train Coffee of the WeekThis week's pick for Coffee of the Week goes to Square Mile Roaster's Red Brick Espresso. It's a rotating seasonal blend roasted medium/medium dark. Square Mile is a roaster in London which I had heard about, but hadn't tried their coffee. A friend brought me back some coffees from NYC a couple weeks ago, and the place happened to carry Square Mile coffees.Square Mile Coffee Roasters What's Happening on Sust. Java?Mug-A-Palooza has launched, and it's impact on the coffee industry simply cannot be measured. As in, it literally had no impact. There is nothing to measure. A grain of sand added to a beach, a drop of water in the ocean. Nevertheless, Java Jolt Newsletter is proud to be involved with this celebration of drink ware. Whether you're looking for new travel mugs, building your home collection, or high-tech temperature controlled ones, this fest will have something for you!Mug-A-Palooza 2020 Cafe Conversation(Cafe is only open for carry-out or delivery this week.)
